The code directory serves as a structured repository of codes and their associated values, acting as a standardised reference guide for consistent classification and representation of data elements.
The definition of a Code Directory is documented in the Terminology section.
The definitions documented in the Code directory section are language-agnostic and intended to be used consistently across different countries and system implementations.
Countries and implementing partners may create localized profile versions, including labels and descriptions in the language(s) of their preference. In all cases, the underlying codes must remain unchanged and aligned with the standardized definitions.
This approach ensures interoperability and semantic consistency at the data level, while allowing flexibility for national languages and local user needs at the presentation and user-interface level.
The data type for all code directories is DT.COM.02 string.
